Ode to Brisbane (Free Verse)

Brisbane,

City of streets, with cars driving upon them

City of parks, renowned for their trees and grass

Oh Brisbane,

City of the river, with its water and ferry and a few bridges

Cty of the sea, with the Gold Coast only a short drive away

Brisbane,

City of the past, with your historic building

City of the future, with your new airport terminal

 Oh Brisbane,

Culinary city, with many places to eat

Mercantile city, with many shops located in a mall

Brisbane,

the clouds that float above, white and fluffy in the bue sky

say “Brisbane, we are

above you.”

  1. John and Mary Mckenzie says:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DEAR POET, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOU

We enjoyed the poem and look forward to more.

We are glad to hear your ear is now better and will be hoping that Erin does not need the ventilin. We’ll ring tonight for your birthday- and will try again if you are out celebrating tonight. Hope your parcel arrived

    Love to all

Dad and Mum – Grandad and Gran

  2. Far be it from me to suggest changes to your poem, but if you start with the words ‘April is the cruellest month’ I think it would add some class. Also, if you could add something about being taken out on a sled at the archduke’s place, it would capture Brisbane pefectly.
