A bunch of shots from Adelaide and PNG, using my new camera. Still a lot to learn. Click to embiggen.

All well. Moving on Saturday. Going to a friend’s pool with the kids this avo. Lou has started work (admin set-up type stuff).

PS happy birthday to John Kleinig.

Cairns

7 Jul

We are in Cairns. On the Esplanade. Weather dreamy. Erin keeps asking me in PNG is going to be like this. Poor chook.

A couple of guys looked at me funny last night, but otherwise the security situation is OK!

Actually they might have been looking at me like that because I was carrying Erin, who had passed out from tiredness after getting up at 4 in the morning. Everyone is talking about “the game”. This means the State of Origin match that occurred last night. I confess to having my mind on other things. Cairns looks all right though, we know we’ll be coming here a bit so it was cool to have a first taste.

We ran into Frank Boulay at our hotel, and went out to have Thai food with him. Franck is a mate from Solomon who taught us to dive. He is also married to Louise’s PNG colleague Bec, and, living in our Port Moresby compound, and, looking after our security and logistics while we are in POM (which by the way means Port Moresby). He has just got a job with Coffey International, who are the company looking after the security / contract stuff in PNG on behanf of AusAid. He might be catching our plane this avo.

So it is hard to imagine a more fitting person to have run into (into whom to have run?).

Flying out at 3. POM Drinks at 5. Sleep at 9? Hotel til Friday then the apartment next to Franck and Beck. I’ll be back with photos soonish.

PNG Site overhaul

14 Apr

We’re moving to Papua New Guinea.

Yes, really.

So, ah, that’s what’s happening with that, then. Right. So. Hmmm. Good.

I’ll be restarting this blog again to keep you all in touch.

Speaking of which, do you like the new look for the ole Sweetness Machine?

Yes? Good for you.

No? Well, why don’t you stand there angrily for 28 seconds, like Tony Abbot. Then walk away.

My Memorial Service Speech

24 Jul

Dad died on the 23rd of January which was six months yesterday. I’m finally getting around to doing a few things I said I’d do, sending things to people that requested them at the time. I’ve given myself permission to be very slow about this.

The main one is the speech I gave. You can download it here.

Faceybook Killed the Bloggio Star

6 Jul

Look, it’s another one of my ‘blog retraction’ posts.

I’m going to put this blog back into hiatus for the foreseeable future – I suspect until we leave Adelaide again. I’ll continue to post very occasionaly but it will be more of a family archive thing than it will be an actual regular blog, and I’ll probaby e-mail people to let you know if there’s something relevant up here. I also can’t see myself ever finding the time to blog more about other extended family members as I said I would in January. I’m too busy with work, house rennovations and other stuff. And I know that no-one will be disappointed about this no-one has been coming here, and also because Facebook is so ragey at the moment that everyone is on there.

Incidentally Louise is on Facebook in a big way and set to upload key Germany photos on there. So if you want to stay in touch with us, that’s probably the place to be.

Cheers,

Steve.
